intro |
Olive text indicates a specimen that has not been
thoroughly examined (for example, for microscopic details) and marks other places in the text
where data is missing or uncertain.
The following material is based on original research by R. E. Tulloss. |
pileus |
38 - 70 mm wide, lemon yellow (3-4B8) to yellow (3B5-7) to tannish yellow or yellow-tan over disc, lighter yellow (3A3) to pallid toward margin, fading to pallid buff yellow, unchanging when cut or bruised, broadly convex to planar (sometimes with low central umbo) to depressed, subglabrous, viscid to slightly viscid (when wet) to tacky, shiny (when wet) to subshiny; context yellowish white, unchanging when cut or bruised, 3 mm thick over stipe, thinning evenly or 80% of radius, then membranous to margin; margin striate to strongly striate (0.3R - 0.4R), decurved, not appendiculate; partial veil median, membranous, light yellow; universal veil as pyramidal or irregular crumb-like warts, scattered, white, pulverulent, detersile. |
lamellae |
free without decurrent line on stipe apex, close to crowded, white to pale cream to cream in mass, unchanging when cut or bruised, 4 - 6.5 mm broad, thin, entire; lamellulae ??. |
stipe |
65 - 125 × 6 - 11 mm, white to off-white to light yellow, staining pale brown on raised fibrils from handling, cylindric or slightly narrowing upward, flaring barely or not at all at apex, subglabrous above midpoint, with fine fibrils and furfuraceous or fine fibrillose scales below, finely longitudinally striatulate; bulb 23 × 21 mm; context yellowish white, hollow with crosswalls of white loosely aggregated cottony fibrils, with larva tunnels concolorous to pale tan, with central cylinder 4 mm wide; partial veil superior to submedian to median, white, membranous, small or of modest size, rather thin, often ephemeral; universal veil ocreate with free thick limb (sometimes with additional ring 5 - 10 mm above limb) or as small scales, white to slightly cream color, sometimes becoming brown overnight. |

ecology |
Solitary to subgregarious. Costa Rica: At 2400 m elev. In old remnant forest occasionally used as pasture with Quercus seemannii, Q. copeyensis, and Q. rapurahuensis. Honduras: At 1200 - 1800 m elev. In pure stand of Pinus oocarpa with little ground cover or under Quercus or in mixed forest with Pinus dominated by Quercus. |

discussion |
The ephemeral nature of the partial veil and ...?? separate this taxon from A. velatipes G. F. Atk.
I photographed a specimen on La Malintzi volcano, Tlaxcala, México, (2.ix.1994, with a note that the specimen had been collected by A. Kong Luz) that may represent this species. |
